I participated in a read-a-thon for the month of July! Here’s how it went:

Growing up, I was a “gifted kid,” meaning I could read levels ahead of my peers at a fast speed. I could purchase a book from a bookstore an hour away from my house and be done with it by the time I got home. But, as I got older and became easily distracted, I couldn’t keep myself entertained with reading anymore. I mean, I really enjoyed getting lost in the words and felt satisfied when I completed a good read; but once I got my first cell phone, my dedication to finish a book was lost. Recently though, I have gotten myself to start reading more. I finished a book for the first time in years and I have downloaded a couple of e-books on my phone I can read through when I’m out and about. But, I want to actually dedicate time to reading new books that have peaked my interest, refreshing myself on old books that I’ve previously loved. So, I joined an online bookclub where I found one of the members hosting a Name-a-thon. Basically, I’ll have the whole month of July to read books (or short stories, fan fictions, poetry, etc.) that start with the first letter of my name. I thought this would be a fun way to give myself an excuse to read more of the things I have been putting off. My name is 7 letters long so it might be a bit of a stretch to finish all of the things I’ve planned to, especially since it had been quite a minute since I’ve done a book binge. But, there’s no better way to keep up with my goal than to live-blog it! So, I will be updating this post as I finish a letter from my name! Here’s the reads I have planned:

R – “Red, White, and Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston
A“A Touch of Stardust” by Kate Alcot
Y – “You Deserve Each Other” by Sarah Hogle
A – “A Cuban Girls Guide To Tea and Tomorrow” by Laura Taylor Namey
N – “Night Shift” by Annie Crown
N – “Now You Know Me” by Thea Kingsley
E – “11:11″ by Julietta G

Conveniently, I also start my new job soon… my July is going to be busy. I’ll try not to cheat and read early. Stay tuned for reading blurbs!

EDIT JULY 3rd: Ok I just finished chapter 7/15 of RW&RB and.. I quickly got hooked due to Alex being such a great character!! I And his family? Awesome. His mom? Needs to adopt me. I stan June!! I love how their family is from Texas, I applaud Texan representation!!! My favorite character has to be Nora though, low-key ship her and June. I think I’m actually more interested in Alex’s moms upcoming presidential race, and how things end up for June and Nora rather than Alex and Henry to be honest oops. But still excited to continue to read and hopefully finish soon!

EDIT JULY 10th: Hello from my living room couch, just finished RW&RB! So happy I finally got to read this book! It was on my to-read list for a while. I liked it. Towards the middle I was kind of losing interest in the story, although everything was really well written obviously! But in the end, it really had my attention again and it was a good read overall! I’m going to start A Touch of Stardust tomorrow; Be back with updates on that!

EDIT JULY 14TH: So A Touch of Stardust is already my favorite book that I’ve read this month so far. I didn’t have high expectations for it because it is set in the 1930’s I believe, and just old time-y things I can never keep interest in. But to my surprise, it has kept my attention and beyond that. I’m already almost half way done with the book just because it has me wanting to keep reading. I read reviews on it before hand; people have rated it 3/5 stars due to its “ending.” Buuuutttt so far, it’s a great book to me sooo we shall see how it ends up being! *eyes emoji*

EDIT JULY 19TH: Internally crying because I just finished A Touch of Stardust and I fell in love!!!! So like I said before, I didn’t think I was going to love this book, or even like it because its set in the 30’s and I’ve never seen Gone with the Wind (which is what the book references). But the writing in this book was perfect for me and I soon never wanted to stop reading. I just love Carole so much; I obviously never knew of her or seen any of her movies but now I’m intrigued to because of how the book portrayed her personality. I also wish in the book that Rose had more airtime because she was such an amazing person to Julie. Maybe its because she’s from Texas but I do love her character and I will miss her!!! I hate that in the book she just suddenly moved back to Texas so I wouldn’t be able to read about her anymore towards the end. And Andy … I cant even think of words to describe how amazing he is, especially to Julie. Just from the beginning, I knew I was going to love him. It hurt me to hear about his grandparents, and I am HEARTBROKEN that the book ended the way it did (like the reviews I read warned :-/// ) . Overall, great book! Def one of my new favorites of all time, clearly my favorite I have read so far. I see myself going back to reread in the future. I only have 11 days left to read 5 more books (screams) so…. Will I end up not finishing the read-a-thon on time? Probably. Buttttt I’m proud of myself for reading 2 book off my list thus far and found one I really liked. Be back soon!

EDIT JULY 27TH: Hi so I finish You Deserved Each Other on the 25th, here’s my review on that: So much like the first book of this month, I found it mostly annoying LOL I guess I am just not a fan of these “enemies to lovers” type stories. Both of the characters are annoying for the most part, it isn’t till the end that I find them slightly enjoyable? Since it was kind of funny I will give it a 3/5 stars. I’m going to start A Cuban Girls Guide soon! And obviously since there are only 4 more days of July after today, I will most likely not be finishing the whole name-a-thon like I figured! But I am soooo proud of myself for even finishing 3 (maybe 4?) whole books this month! Doing this read-a-thon really opened me up more to making time to read, and now I feel like I can definitely stay on the right track in the future to read more. I’m excited for this next book so when I finish it or whenever its July 31st, whichever comes first, I will be back!!! 😀

EDIT July 31st: So I haven’t finished A Cuban Girls Guide so I officially finished 3 books out of 7 *womp womp* but like I said before, I’m proud of myself for even having the time to finish 3 full books! And I loved getting to know all these characters this month and going on different journeys. Such a fun experience overall! I definitely will participate in more read-a-thons in the future and hopefully maybe be successful? If I do decide to participate in another, I will be posting about it on here of course! Thanks to anyone who went on this journey with me this month! I’m signing off <3
